One Way – Chaplain Tracey Burns

In my newsletter this week, I would like know if you have ever experienced a one-way street before? Though they are rare in certain areas, we can agree they are sometimes necessary. What is the purpose of a one-way street? Google states: “one-way streets are put in place to improve traffic flow and safety, and to simplify crossings for pedestrians.

One-way streets also help alleviate congestion and move traffic more efficiently.” This metaphor also reflects the nature of God and His love for His children, directional, unconditional and always moving for our good. Much the same, this image reflects our journey with Go —a relationship that, while sometimes feels one-sided, it is actually an invitation to trust and rely completely on Him. Likewise, just as a one-way road sign is there to guide us on our journey, so is the Word of God.

When we lean on Scripture to navigate our path, it becomes clear and we can see that His ways are better than ours and therefore we must trust that His plan and timing is perfect. However, we must be proactive and put our faith and trust in Him to work on our behalf and stop trying to control things. He’s got us and already has it worked out. Though we may at times not think this, because He has led us through mountains and valleys, we are always assured that He will be with us through the process. With this said, let’s remember to surrender our need for control and to let Him steer our lives. Are you capable to step out in faith and let go and allow Him to lead?

My challenge to you today is trust the route (God’s plan for your life), Let go of control (when we submit, He clears the way), stay focused (on God’s presence) and embrace the journey (and allow Him to transform you). To sum it up, a one- way relationship with God may feel one-sided, but it’s actually the most fulfilling journey you will ever take. In addition, a one-way relationship with God isn’t about receiving blessings or answers on our terms; it’s about drawing closer to Him. Therefore, embrace the journey, trust His guidance, and enjoy the beauty of a relationship built on faith and surrender. If you apply all these concepts, you can’t go wrong because you will know that His love is constant, and a gift you can always count on.

Your ears will hear a world behind you, "This is the way, walk in it," whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
Isaiah 30:21

Reflection Questions:

1. When you consider your relationship with God would you say it is a one- or two-way street?

2. Where is God calling you to trust Him more deeply?

3. Are you seeking His guidance in your daily decisions?

4. Do you try and take control or do you let Him lead you?

Bonus: Great song (if you are interested) Did you know that “Loves got a way”
